Sagor-Runi killings accused Tanvir gets bail

The High Court on Tuesday granted interim bail to Tanvir Rahman, an accused in the Sagar-Runi murder case, until police submits report in the case.

The HC bench comprising Justice Md Nizamul Huq and Justice ASH Nurul Huda Jaigirdar granted the bail upon a petition filed by Tanvir.

The HC also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why he should not be granted permanent bail in the case.

Earlier, on September 2, another HC bench comprising Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore returned Tanvir’s bail petition citing personal reasons, said Tanvir’s counsel Fawzia Karim.

Sagar Sarowar, news editor at private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, a senior reporter at another TV channel, ATN Bangla, were killed in the small hours on February 11, 2012, at their rented apartment in West Rajabazar in the city.

A case was later filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station over the grisly killings.
