Senior Jamaat-e-Islami leader and war
criminal Mohammad Kamaruzzaman's family says they will file a review petition
against the Supreme Court's decision to uphold his death sentence.
The four-strong Appellate Division
bench headed by Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha gave the final verdict on the
former Al-Badr commander on Monday.
The war crimes tribunal last year
awarded death to Jamaat’s assistant secretary general on two charges, including
the killing of 120 men and raping of women from village Shohaghpur at Sherpur’s
Nalitabari on July 25, 1971.
"There's no proof of
Kamaruzzaman being involved in the genocide. The history does not also say so.
Still the final verdict upheld his death sentence.
"We did not get justice. We will
file a review petition as soon as the copy of the verdict is available,"
Kamaruzzaman's son Hasan Iqbal told reporters on Monday after the judgment.
